Were you worried over this painting? There is kindness in the eyes...that draws you in, causing you to want to look longer, to want to know this man. Nice, inviting smile and the nose is wonderfully done. What more could you want?! The emotional response is there...
Love the way you've captured this man's personality. I agree with Debra, you've captured an agreeable aspect of this person that makes the viewer want to know him. Love the soft greens in the background.
I don't know what you were struggling with in this painting. This suggestion may help but you might know this trick already; When I'm almost done with a portrait and still not happy with it but can't identify why, I take a photo, put it in photoshop and flip the image horizontally. From this view, I will always see something to modify that I didn't see before.
